Root Canal Treatment in Shepherd's Bush
Our clinicians perform root canal treatment using advanced rotary endodontic instruments and digital X-ray technology, making the procedure faster, more precise, and far more comfortable than patients typically expect. We have treated many patients who arrived convinced they would need their tooth removed and left having saved it entirely.

The Truth About Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment has an unfair reputation. Most patients who dread it discover it is no more uncomfortable than having a filling. In fact, it is the infection — not the treatment — that causes the pain.
Root canal therapy at W12 Dental & Implant Centre relieves that pain, saves your natural tooth, and is performed with a level of gentleness that surprises almost every patient who comes through our door.
Why is it needed
What Is Root Canal Treatment and Why Is It Needed?
Every tooth contains a soft inner core called the pulp — a network of nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue that runs from the crown of the tooth down through one or more narrow channels called root canals. This pulp is essential during the tooth’s development, but a fully formed adult tooth can survive and function perfectly well without it.
Root canal treatment — also called endodontic therapy — is the process of removing infected, inflamed, or dead pulp tissue from inside the tooth, cleaning and shaping the root canals to eliminate all bacteria, and sealing them with an inert filling material called gutta-percha. Once sealed, the canals are closed off permanently, the pain is eliminated, and the tooth is restored so it can continue to function normally for years to come.
The alternative to root canal treatment is extraction. While removing the tooth stops the immediate problem, it creates a new set of consequences: neighbouring teeth drift, the jawbone begins to lose density at the site, and a gap that is not replaced affects both function and appearance. Root canal treatment preserves what nature gave you — and in most cases, the restored tooth lasts for many years or even a lifetime.
How Many Appointments Does Root Canal Treatment Take?
At W12 Dental & Implant Centre, the majority of root canal treatments are completed in one to two appointments, depending on the complexity of the case.
Simple single-rooted teeth — such as front incisors — can often be completed in a single extended appointment of 60 to 90 minutes.
Multi-rooted back teeth — molars with three or more canals — may require a second appointment to complete cleaning, allow any active infection to settle with a medicated intra-canal dressing, and carry out the final obturation.

Most Frequently Asked Questions
The infection will not resolve on its own. Without treatment, it will spread, the pain will worsen, and the tooth will ultimately require extraction. In severe cases, dental infections can spread to the jaw, neck, or airway and become a medical emergency. Prompt treatment is always the right course of action.
For back teeth — premolars and molars — yes, almost always. These teeth bear high chewing forces and become significantly more brittle without their pulp. A crown protects them from fracture and extends the lifespan of the treatment considerably. Front teeth are assessed individually.
Yes. If a root canal treated tooth develops new symptoms or the infection persists, re-treatment is possible. We clean and re-seal the canals, often with a good prognosis for long-term resolution. We will always assess whether re-treatment or other options are more appropriate for your specific situation.
